Kay is a highly experienced medical negligence lawyer. She has worked across the breadth of medical negligence since qualifying in 1997. Kay specialises in birth injury and cerebral palsy cases.
As a former midwife, Kay brings her extensive clinical experience to her role. This gives her great insight into the traumatic experiences of her clients, and knowledge which enables her to forensically analyse medical evidence, employing strategies to maximise prospects of a case succeeding.
Kay is head of our Leeds office medical negligence team. She is dedicated to her clients, drawing from the strengths and experience of all the team to ensure her clients are fully supported throughout their case.
Kay is a member of the Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers and of the Leeds Medicolegal Society.
She is also a Registered Midwife and Registered General Nurse.
Kay is empathic and caring. She is passionate about supporting her clients, who are often living very difficult lives, with profoundly injured children, or who are catastrophically injured themselves.
Kay is not solely focused on achieving a successful conclusion and an award of damages, but on getting answers to her client’s questions. Knowing what went wrong and why, is often a significant part of her client’s recovery and helps in the move forward they need to make for a better future.
Kay gains as much personal and professional reward in supporting her clients at a time when they are vulnerable, as when she worked as a midwife, supporting women in pregnancy and labour.
Kay has settled many complex and high value cases involving brain damage from both birth injury and stroke.
She has also settled cases involving spinal injury, and cauda equina.
"Kay and her team were amazing over the last two years. The help and support they have given me and my partner has been amazing, we cannot thank them enough for all their hard word."

We have appointed solicitor Emma Hudson to further strengthen our Leeds based clinical negligence team. Emma specialises in birth injuries.
Lawyers from Yorkshire-based Switalskis' clinical negligence department stood shoulder to shoulder in support of the region’s midwives at the ‘March with Midwives’ demonstration in Leeds.
Internal investigation and reporting of traumatic outcomes, has served to improve standards of care on many units, but this has unfortunately not been the case for all Trusts.
