We’re pleased to announce that we have been shortlisted for four awards at the forthcoming Yorkshire Legal Awards. This is recognition of the first-class service that we provide to clients and the way that we have continued to grow the business and retain staff despite the economic difficulties caused by the pandemic.

The categories are:

  • Large Law Firm of the Year
  • Managing Partner of the Year (John Durkan)
  • Rising Star (Amy Clowrey)
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution (Child Abuse Compensation team)

This year we have submitted an entry for the Large Law Firm category for the first time, having acquired both Atherton Godfrey and Pryers Solicitors in the first half of this year. The combined Switalskis group is expected to generate revenues of £25m and now employs around 400 staff.

Having overseen this growth in what has been a very difficult year for most law firms, John Durkan has been shortlisted for Managing Partner of the Year. In 2009 John was among the first non-lawyers in the UK to become a director of a law firm when SRA rules changed. So far in 2021, John has led the group through two strategic acquisitions and is now focused on growing the Switalskis group further in the coming years.

Our Child Abuse Compensation department continues to build on its national reputation as a leader in its field. The past year has seen them help many more clients achieve justice and compensation for historic abuse, which has been reflected in some high-profile media appearances, both locally and nationally.

Within that department, Amy Clowrey has continued her strong track record of career progression within the company and the wider legal profession. Having initially joined the firm as part of her training contract, Amy has risen through the ranks to become an Associate Solicitor in a busy, growing department. Outside of the firm, she has held key roles with among others the JLD (Junior Lawyers Division) a division of The Law Society.

The awards ceremony takes place on Thursday 7 October 2021 and we’re delighted to be recognised already for being a growing law firm which provides opportunities for our specialist departments and talented individuals to flourish.
