Kickstart your solicitor journey with Switalskis
By Julie Guest
Thinking about a career in law? At Switalskis, we’re all about supporting the next generation of solicitors through our inclusive and forward-thinking Career Development Programme. If you’re ambitious and ready to make your mark in the legal world, we’d love to hear from you!

What is the Qualifying Solicitors Programme (QSP)?
Our QSP (formerly the trainee scheme) is designed for both internal and external applicants who are eager to grow with us.
If you’re hardworking, driven, and ready to take the next step in your legal career, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
How we help you build your career
At Switalskis, we focus on three big goals:
- Creating a fantastic place to work
- Growing sustainably and profitably
- Delivering excellent service to our clients
We have a career development programme that lays out a clear pathway from solicitor to associate, then senior associate, and eventually director (similar to a partner in other firms). At each stage, we assess your contributions towards these goals—so you’ll always know what’s needed to move forward.
What we look for
You don’t need years of law firm experience to apply. While paralegal experience is a plus, it’s not a must-have. Instead, we focus on six key qualities:
- Ambition
- A strong work ethic
- A positive attitude
- Reliability
- A solid academic background
- Teamwork skills
You’ll have the chance to showcase these throughout the application process, both in writing and in interviews.
Which training route is right for you?
Our QSP offers two different routes into becoming a solicitor, depending on where you are in your studies:
Traditional 2-year training contract
You’ll need to have completed either:
- The Legal Practice Course (LPC) or a Master of Law and Practice (which includes the LPC), OR
- Part 1 of the Solicitors Qualification Examination (SQE)
Don’t have these yet? No worries—consider applying for a paralegal role first to gain valuable experience while you complete your studies.
32-month graduate solicitor apprenticeship
You’ll need to have completed either:
- A law degree, OR
- A non-law degree plus a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL)
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to diversity and inclusion.
The application process
Applications are open: 3 – 31 March.
How to Apply
Submit your application form, CV, and a supporting statement via our website using one of the links:
Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeship
Our senior team will carefully review each application. You’ll hear back from us within two weeks of the application closing date.
If shortlisted, you’ll:
- Have an initial phone interview with our recruitment team
- Be invited to a face-to-face interview (about an hour long)
- Get advance notice if you need to prepare anything
If you’re successful…
You’ll join us in September and receive a detailed induction plan before your start date. Some induction activities might take place beforehand, but we’ll understand if you have existing commitments.
