World Mental Health Day 2024

World Mental Health Day is marked on 10 October each year. It’s a day that’s dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and promoting mental wellbeing worldwide.

World Mental Health Day

This year’s theme centres around workplace mental health , reminding us of the vital role mental health plays in our professional and personal lives. Given that we spend a significant amount of time at work, it’s essential to prioritise mental health in our work lives too.

Prioritising mental health at work

At Switalskis, we’re committed to making our workplace a supportive, mentally healthy space. Creating a great place to work goes beyond the physical environment. We focus on ensuring the mental and physical wellbeing of all staff through a variety of wellness programmes. These initiatives not only aim to improve productivity but also enhance overall life satisfaction.

Our approach includes:

Access to mental health resources : We recognise that mental health needs are different from one person to another, so we provide a range of resources that employees can use at their own pace. From self-help materials to professional counselling, our resources are available to help employees manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.

Flexible working hours : Flexibility at work can significantly reduce stress. By allowing employees to adjust their working hours to better fit their personal lives, we help maintain a healthy work-life balance, preventing burnout and encouraging overall wellbeing.

Healthy work environment : The design of our physical spaces also contributes to mental wellbeing. Our designed workspaces ensure employees are comfortable, reducing physical strain that can contribute to mental fatigue. In addition, we foster an open and inclusive atmosphere where employees feel supported and respected.

Confidential counselling services : Sometimes, talking to a professional can make all the difference. Our confidential counselling services are designed to give employees a safe space to discuss personal or work-related issues without fear of judgment.

What you can do to take care of your mental health

Taking care of your mental health is an ongoing process, and there are steps you can take daily to maintain your wellbeing. On World Mental Health Day—and every day—it’s important to:

Check in with friends, family, and colleagues : Talking about mental health helps break the stigma and can provide valuable support. Whether it's a casual chat or a deeper conversation, checking in on others and expressing how you're feeling can really help.

Why mental health matters

Mental health is an important aspect of overall wellbeing and affects how we think, feel, and act. It impacts how we handle stress, relate to others, and make decisions, both at work and in our personal life. Ignoring mental health can lead to various issues, such as decreased productivity, strained relationships, and even long-term health complications.

By fostering an environment that supports mental health, Switalskis encourages employees to seek help when needed, share their experiences without fear of stigma, and embrace practices that promote resilience and happiness.

As we mark World Mental Health Day, let’s commit to looking after our mental wellbeing—not just today, but every day.

Remember, mental health is a journey. It’s okay to ask for help, and it’s essential to check in with yourself and those around you regularly.
