Independent report into Telford child exploitation published

An independent report into child sexual exploitation in Telford has been published today. The report finds failings by the authorities in Telford in protecting vulnerable young women in the town, victim-blaming and inadequate or no action being taken against perpetrators of abuse.

Many similar reports over the last few years in towns and cities across the country have found such failings. The handling of child sexual exploitation has been a national issue for many years and this report confirms that Telford is no different.

A 92 year old pensioner is one of two people to have appeared at Bradford Crown Court on 19 February. Both Malcolm Philips and Linda Brunning, 65, have been charged with various offences relating to the alleged sexual abuse of children at Skircoat Lodge, Halifax, between the 1970’s and 1990’s.

Three men have now been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into non-recent child abuse in Rotherham. These charges follow a lengthy police inquiry into serious allegations dating back many years. The trial is currently listed for November 2026 at Sheffield Crown Court. It is hoped that date will be brought forward.
