Switalskis Clinical Negligence team shortlisted for two more industry awards

The brilliant work of our Clinical Negligence team has again been recognised with them being shortlisted for two categories at the 2019 Personal Injury Awards. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 27th November in Manchester.
The team is shortlisted for “Clinical Negligence Team of the Year” as well as “Outstanding Case of the Year” at the awards which are in their 12th year. The Personal Injury Awards were created to identify high standards of practice and to inspire others to emulate the achievements demonstrated by those who have been shortlisted.
Among other things, the “Outstanding Team of the Year” nomination focused on the significance and complexity of the cases dealt with by the team, the leadership shown by the department’s three directors (Suzanne Munroe , Janet Baker and Sarah Tipton Walker ) and the strong succession plan that is developing within the team.
The second shortlisting is for “Outstanding Case of the Year”. Director Suzanne Munroe has represented a catastrophically brain-damaged client since he was ten weeks old and achieved a liability settlement in 2012 when he was still just five. Suzanne has secured several interim damages payments for her client to ensure he has access to crucial support and therapies until the quantum case is finalised. An application for interim costs payments to assist continued funding of the claim was refused by the District Judge, then allowed on appeal. The Defendants tried to further appeal that decision but the Court of Appeal refused the second appeal. This case has significant implications for claimants and solicitors in the sector, as it helps ensure that funding is in place for such long, complex litigation cases.
