Supporting clients with cerebral palsy

By Hannah Nagle

Published In: Clinical Negligence

On October 6th we stand with the global community to celebrate World Cerebral Palsy Day. This day is about raising awareness, fostering inclusivity, and recognising the incredible resilience of individuals living with cerebral palsy (CP). With around 18 million people affected worldwide, it's a moment to amplify their voices and commit to creating a more supportive and inclusive environment for everyone.

is a neurological condition caused by abnormal brain development or damage, usually occurring before, during, or shortly after birth. It can affect movement, coordination, posture, and sometimes abilities. Each person’s experience with CP is different, ranging from mild challenges to more complex needs. While some may use assistive devices for mobility, others might face difficulties with speech or daily activities.

The importance of awareness

At Switalskis we know that isn’t just about physical challenges. The emotional, cognitive, and social aspects are equally important, and understanding this broader picture is key to creating meaningful support. That's why we're committed to helping our clients with CP navigate these challenges, making life’s tougher moments a little easier through our dedicated approach and care.

World Day is also an opportunity to celebrate achievements. Whether it's athletes reaching new heights or artists creating inspiring work, these stories challenge stereotypes and remind us all of the strength and determination within the CP community. It’s about creating a society where individuals with CP are recognised for their abilities, not just their condition.

How Switalskis support those with cerebral palsy

At Switalskis we’re more than just legal professionals—we’re here to make a real difference in our clients' lives. Our experienced team specialises in handling complex claims, always keeping our clients’ needs at the forefront. For that reason we work closely with charities such as Leeds Powerchair Football Club, rehabilitation providers, accommodation support, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and many more. We aim to provide our clients with the resources to fulfil their needs in day-to-day activities and engage in a positive, enriched future.

We’re proud of our track record in cases, recently settling two major claims with 95% liability admitted. These outcomes provide long-term stability and security for our clients, offering peace of mind that their future needs will be taken care of. Our work isn’t just about securing compensation—it’s about reshaping lives and empowering our clients to move forward.

How you can make a difference

  1. Educate yourself and others: Share what you learn about cerebral palsy with friends and family to help spread understanding.
  2. Support local initiatives: Get involved with organisations that support individuals with disabilities, whether through volunteering, donations, or advocacy.
  3. Raise awareness on social media: Use your platforms to share information, personal stories, or resources related to CP.
  4. Attend events: Participate in local or virtual events on World Cerebral Palsy Day to connect with others and show your support.
