Six men have been convicted of grooming three vulnerable young girls between 2005 and 2008. The grooming occurred in Kirklees and the investigation was part of West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Tendersea. The men will be sentenced on 1 November at Leeds Crown Court. 

The complainants were ages 12 to 16 when the abuse and exploitation happened. Prosecutors reported that the girls were provided with cigarettes, alochol and drugs to lure them in and establish a false sense of security. Five of the men have been convicted of varying counts of rape, whilst one man has been convicted of attempted rape.  A man and a woman have both been cleared of charges made against them regarding facilitating a child sex offence and rape.

Prosecutor Richard Wright QC said that: “These men cared only for themselves and viewed these girls as objects to be used and abused at will.” He also stated that violence was used to threaten the vulnerable girls into submission.
