The sentencing of six men found guilty of offences relating to child grooming and sexual exploitation in the Huddersfield area today concluded in Leeds Crown Court. The sentencing began on Friday 1st November with final defendant, Banaris Hussain , being sentenced today. Banaris Hussain – brother of Umar Zaman who was sentenced on Friday – today received 10 years imprisonment for one count of rape.

Members of the grooming gang who were sentenced on Friday received sentences of 14, 8 and 7 years bringing a combined total of 55 years imprisonment for the six men involved.

The sentencing follows a lengthy trial held at Leeds/Bradford Crown Court where 6 men were found guilty of offences which included sexual assault and rape. The trial was just one of a number relating to child grooming and sexual exploitation in the Huddersfield area with further trials expected to take place next year.

When sentencing HHJ Marson QC addressed ‘how girls had been groomed for sexual purposes by Asian men’ and Banaris Hussain who had raped a vulnerable 14 year old girl has shown ‘not a shred of remorse’ for his offending. As well as the custodial sentence, HHJ Marson QC put in place orders which prevents the men having any future contact with any female child under the age of 18, without prior consent from social services or the court. If any of these men breached the order, they would face further imprisonment.
