Operation Stovewood: Rotherham brothers jailed for child sexual assault
By Amy Clowrey
Two men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their roles in the sexual exploitation of children in Rotherham. Mark and Robert Evans have been handed 14 and 17 year sentences, reflecting the severity of their crimes and the lasting impact on their victims. Both men were found guilty of raping two girls, and Mark Evans was convicted of a further sexual offence against another child. The children they abused, which spanned over a two-year period, were as young as 13 years old.

The convictions come as part of an ongoing effort to hold perpetrators of child sexual exploitation accountable. Rotherham has been at the centre of national discussions on this issue for many years following the Jay Report in 2014, and this case highlights the continued work of survivors, law enforcement, and legal professionals in seeking justice.
For many survivors, the impact of child sexual abuse and exploitation often lasts a lifetime and the bravery it takes to come forward should never be underestimated.
At Switalskis, we understand how difficult it can be for survivors to speak about their experiences. Many fear they will not be believed or that too much time has passed. However, cases like this prove that justice is still possible. If you have been affected by similar experiences, we are here to listen and provide guidance on your legal options.
If you or someone you know has suffered abuse, support is available. Organisations such as the National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) and specialist legal teams can provide assistance.

At Switalskis, we have represented over 200 women who have been affected by child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, Manchester and West Yorkshire, plus other parts of the country where similar grooming, exploitation and abuse has occurred.
We are aware of the damage this kind of abuse causes and the huge difficulty many have in coming forward and reporting the abuse they suffered. We have successfully secured damages for many survivors, compensating them for the harm they suffered and allowing them to get the help they need to begin to rebuild their lives. All of our team members have undergone training to ensure that they are aware of how child sexual exploitation and abuse can impact individuals, so that we can better support survivors.
