East Kent Hospitals Trust has lost confidence of patients
By Clare Gooch
The East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust have been heavily criticised in recent weeks following the publication of Dr Kirkup’s report, which identified many significant failings in the maternity services provided by the Trust.
The report has understandably unsettled many members of the public, including families that have been directly affected by the findings published.
Following Dr Kirkup’s report and the publicity surrounding the enquiry, the Trust has since commented that “regaining patient trust would be possibly the largest challenge ” they face. The Trust recognises that the level of trust doesn’t just extend to patients, they also need to regain the confidence of staff.
It is hoped following Dr Kirkup’s report that the Trust will now accept accountability and begin to rebuild relationships and a secure infrastructure to ensure that the failings identified in Dr Kirkup’s report do not continue. The question often asked and often unanswered is whether it is too little too late. Will the Trust be able to implement the changes needed so as to rebuild relationships and protect the people?
