This week (20th- 26th May 2019) is Dementia Action Week – a week that aims to encourage us all to take action and improve the lives of people living with Dementia.

This year Switalskis have committed to becoming a more ‘Dementia Friendly’ organisation.

Dementia is a condition which affects many of our staff and clients’ lives.  For many years Switalskis has worked hard to protect the rights and interests of those living with Dementia.   Many of our departments have a wealth of experience in acting for individuals affected by Dementia, by either ensuring that their voices are heard in the legal justice system or by providing the right support when preparing wills or powers of attorney.

One of the first steps we have taken as a firm to become more ‘Dementia Friendly’ has been to hold Information Session at our various offices to encourage as many members of staff as possible to become a Dementia Friend.

So far our Dementia Champion, Catrin Lloyd, has held Information Sessions at our Knaresborough, Boston Spa, Pontefract and Bradford offices.  The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and over 50 members of staff based at these offices are now Dementia Friends.

Late February Sharon Woodward and Linda Firth from the Wills and Probate Team also became Dementia Champions and they will be holding various Information Sessions at our Wakefield offices over the next few weeks.

We hope that by the end of 2019 at least 85% of our staff will be a Dementia Friend.
