Bradford Council support investigations into historic sex abuse
By David Greenwood
David Greenwood, head of Switalskis’ Child Abuse Compensation team, recently featured on a BBC Look North segment discussing Bradford Council’s support of an in-depth investigation into historic sex abuse of teenage girls by the Children Safeguarding Board.
The investigation was launched following sexual abuse in children’s homes in the city. In 2008, two fourteen year old girls were abused while in care. The two men responsible were convicted earlier in 2019 after one of the victims, Fiona Goddard, spoke out about her ordeal in the hopes that more cases would come to light. Although a representative of Children’s Services claims that there does not appear to be a wide-scale problem in Bradford specifically, further investigation is required.
Switalskis director and solicitor David Greenwood highlighted that it was disappointing to know these types of cases were not picked up earlier. David also explained how police were not dealing with cases or prosecuting as it was assumed.
