Lydia is a paralegal in the Court of Protection health and welfare department, based in Huddersfield. She assists on matters relating to section 21a under the Mental Capacity Act and section 15/16 under the Mental Health Act.

Lydia's role includes:

  • Case management: managing and organising case files and maintaining accurate records of client information, and case proceedings
  • Client liaison: acting as a point of contact for clients and litigation friends, communicating with them about case updates, gathering information, and addressing their concerns or queries
  • Legal research: conducting research on relevant statutes, case law, and regulations to support their case
  • Drafting legal documents: assisting in drafting legal documents such as court forms, witness statements, and correspondence
  • Court proceedings support: assisting solicitors in preparing for court hearings, including organising evidence, drafting court bundles, and liaising with barristers and other professionals involved in the case
  • Client advocacy: supporting clients throughout the legal process, explaining procedures, and ensuring their interests are represented effectively
  • Collaboration: collaborating with other professionals such as social workers, medical professionals, and financial experts to gather information and support to clients

Lydia believes that every person and client should be treated with respect, consideration and compassion. Lydia is passionate about providing the best possible service to all her clients, and she will ensure that she completes any work for her clients with due care and integrity.

EXPERIENCE

Lydia completed an LLM in International Human Rights Law and Practice at the University of York in 2020. She's committed to promoting the human rights of others. She is also a qualified, but non-practicing, mediator and is accredited with the Civil Mediation Counsel, the International Mediation Institute and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
