Northern Ireland Redress Scheme launches 31 March 2020

By David Greenwood

Published In: Child Abuse

The redress process for victims and survivors of Historical Institutional Abuse (“HIA”) will be launched on Tuesday 31st March as promised by the Government in November 2019.

While the launch will proceed, there will be no public event. Our understanding is that applications will initially be made online via solicitors. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown most solicitors will not be able to hold face-to-face meetings with clients in their offices but here at Switalskis we will, of course, be able to go through the process carefully over the phone with you.

We understand that records of attendance at institutions are stored with the HIA and can be accesses by the HIA staff who will help us locate records. These records are required for the scheme along with your ID.

The redress scheme in Northern Ireland has been a long time coming and the team here at Switalskis will help you navigate through the application process.

Remember the scheme promises to cover your legal costs so our work is free of charge to you.
