Looking after your mental health over the Christmas period

By Joe Swan

Published In: Child Abuse

The festive season is often shown as a time of joy and togetherness. However, for many, Christmas can be a challenging period that highlights feelings of loneliness, grief, or unresolved trauma. At Switalskis Solicitors, our Abuse Compensation team understands how difficult this time can be, especially for those who have experienced abuse or significant hardship in their lives.

It’s important to remember that it’s okay to struggle during the holidays. You’re not alone in feeling this way, and there are practical steps and resources available to help you manage your mental health during this season.

If you’re feeling anxious, sad, or overwhelmed, give yourself permission to feel this way. Focus on being kind to yourself. Recognise that the holidays can be a difficult time, and that’s okay. Your feelings are valid, and there is no “right” way to experience this time of year.

Where to Find Support

Please note that their helplines will be closed on:

·         Wednesday 25 December (Christmas Day)

·         Thursday 26 December (Boxing Day)

·         Wednesday 1 January (New Year’s Day)

Support lines are open:

·         Monday to Thursday: 10am 9pm.

·         Friday: 10am 6pm.

·         Saturday and Sunday: Closed.

  • Local Crisis Services: Many communities have helplines and charities offering support during the holidays—check what’s available near you.

If you’re working with us at Switalskis, you’re always welcome to reach out for guidance. While we aren’t a counselling service, we can connect you with trusted organisations that can provide the help you need.

We wish you a peaceful Christmas, from all those at Switalskis.
