By David Greenwood
On Friday 10th May 2024 a former teacher, Keith Lockwood, was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment for child sex offences against pupils dating back to 1976.
Keith Lockwood worked at Whitcliffe Mount school from 1976 before moving to Earlsheaton High School, and then Batley Boys High school. He was convicted on 1st May 2024 at Leeds Crown court of numerous sex offences.
Keith was convicted at Leeds Crown Court, of 23 offences committed against boys under the age of 16 since the 1970’s in the Kirklees area. The court heard that the offences included gross indecency and indecent assault.
Two West Yorkshire police officers were commended for their good work on the case and further victims are likely to have cases pursued in a later case.
Keith Lockwood was originally convicted in 2002. David Greenwood, Director and Head of Child Abuse Compensation at Switalskis acted for the victim in that case. He has now been asked to assist one of the present complainants to pursue a case for compensation from the local authority who employed Keith Lockwood.
These cases are intense for the survivors and each person who had the courage to speak to police should be applauded.
