Child in life threatening condition after Doncaster crash
By Rosie Dodds
On Tuesday 2 July 2024, a 9-year old boy was struck by a Toyota Yaris at a junction in Sprotbrough, Doncaster at around 8.40am.
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Rosie Dodds, associate solicitor, specialising in fatal and complex injury claims, comments:
“We are once again reminded of the importance of road safety. As a solicitor, I see too many accidents involving pedestrians.
“I assume this incident occurred during the morning school run, a time when the roads and pavements are full of young children and families trying to make their way to school. This is a busy time, with lots of potential hazards for drivers to consider. And those drivers may also feel the pressure of rush hour and making it to their place of work on time.
“This horrific incident is a reminder of how important it is to always drive at a safe speed for the situation and to stay vigilant, particularly when there are several pedestrians sharing the roads.
“As a mother with two primary school aged children, I have witnessed a number of terrifying near misses on my school runs.
“My heart goes out to the young boy and his family during this difficult time. I wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
