15 arrests as part of ongoing Operation Stovewood historical abuse investigation

A further 15 men have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into historic child abuse offences in Rotherham, Operation Stovewood, which is being headed by the National Crime Agency. These arrests relate to three investigations for sexual offences against four girls between 2003 and 2009.

Nine of these men have been arrested on suspicion of raping a girl between 2003 and 2009, five have been arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse against two girls between 2007 and 2009 and a further man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a girl in 2008.

The arrests occurred in Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield, Wakefield, Blackburn and County Durham. All men have been released on bail. So far 190 people have been questioned as part of Operation Stovewood with 20 people having been convicted of offences identified by the investigation.

Three men have now been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into non-recent child abuse in Rotherham. These charges follow a lengthy police inquiry into serious allegations dating back many years. The trial is currently listed for November 2026 at Sheffield Crown Court. It is hoped that date will be brought forward.
